From Glubka's introductory essay, "Root: an erasurist's wandering inquiry": After Through the Fracture in the I, my first erasure poetry chapbook, I found I wasn't finished with the form. Erasure had seduced me. The process was mysterious and compelling and it kept showing me-- What? What was it showing me? I might be writing this to find out. SAMPLE POEMS: THE LONG LOOP OF TIME (derived from Virginia Woolf's The Waves) The world is crying, blown like a small butterfly in white circles. Do not fear. Tell stories lit shining red. This is our universe. We quiver, but we must not be too delicate. The ripple of life will continue. SHE MADE LIFE SIMPLE (derived from Gertrude Stein's Three Lives) One day, a little red day, she made life simple. Mystery, subtle and vague, would be seeking rest and quiet. Often, Thought liked appearing, dignified and pleasant, a little wandering. Nature used to come once in a while. Always that came through pale yellow, sweet-appearing, close in sympathy. Thinking then was quick, vigorous with beginning and joyous in the sunshine. In the midst, life suddenly filled full, strong, cleaned, and decent. Inborn intense wisdom had come, very simple. O YE BLESSED INFLUENCES! (derived from Herman Melville's Moby Dick) My reason would see its glassy heart burst from a small touch of silence. Wild now, I feel the latent human in me, laughing, at home, as bubbles on the brim break. TO WAKE UPON THE COUCH OF DEATH (derived from William Blake's The Four Zoas) Broken Gates. Deep shadow. The anxious little soul looks out & weeps the body of Eternity-- trembling, outstretchd, enormous. With dreadful shakings, the heavens & the Earth awake, naked, set at liberty, let loose on the troubled deep & the darkning bodies mingle. Shadowy forms of joy, mixd in the ruins, call— & from flames of mental fire: bright visions. order paperback of Burst Thought Shall Show Its Root here order eBook of Burst Thought Shall Show Its Root here |
